What was the point?

posted by:

Well it seems that David Letterman and his girlfriend of 23 years finally got married.  My question at this point is “What’s the point?”  They have been together for 23 years and all was fine, they have a 5 year old son so why get married now?  I guess the time was finally right maybe.  Who knows?

David Letterman, host of the late night American television show Late Show with David Letterman, has married his girlfriend of 23 years, he told studio audience during a taping of his show on Monday.

Letterman, 61, announced he and Regina Lasko, with whom he has a five-year son, were wed in a courthouse ceremony in Choteau in Teton County, Montana last week, near the ranch they own together.

“They say, ‘Well, why did it take you so long to get married?’ and, of course, the answer honestly is we wanted to make sure we had the prenup just right,” Letterman joked. Letterman and Lasko began their relationship in 1986. Their son, Harry, was present for the ceremony. The late night talk show host previously swore off marriage after his 1977 divorce with Michelle Cook.

“I secretly felt that men who were married admired me … like I was the last of the real gunslingers,” Letterman said during his Monday show, where he made the announcement shortly after congratulating Bruce Willis for getting married last week.

Letterman told the audience he nearly missed the ceremony because his truck became stuck in mud two miles from their house. The ceremony was delayed one hour while Letterman walked back in 50 mile per hour winds to get his car. “And the whole way, I’m thinking, ‘See … you try to get married and this is what happens,’” he said.

I do wish him and his new wife the best of luck.  They have practiced long enough that it should work or at least you would think it would work out.  The funny thing is that sometimes when people live together for years like that and then get married, it all seems to fall apart for some reason.  I hope that doesn’t happen with them.

This is crazy

I have read some strange stories but this one takes the cake.  Who ever heard of an outhouse having anything to do with religious convictions and someone being jailed because of it but it sure happened.  Just check this out.

An Amish man from Cambria County, Pennsylvania has been sentenced to 90 days in jail after claiming his religious beliefs prevent him from bringing two school outhouses into compliance with state sewage regulations. Andy Swartzentruber, of Barr Township, was jailed and fined $1,000 on a contempt of court charge for violating a previous court order. County officials said waste was collected in buckets and dumped outside.

Judge Norman Krumenacker also ordered the Amish school and outhouse on Swartzentruber’s property to be locked up until the violations are addressed. The judge said Swartzentruber could be released early if the sewage issues are resolved.

The ruling shocked about a dozen men and women in the courtroom, including his wife Frances, with whom Swartzentruber has 16 children. But he said he would rather accept jail-time than violate his religious convictions. “I stand by my religion. If I don’t, it could destroy the whole church group,” he said.

Pennsylvania Department of Education officials said the local school district is responsible for educating the school’s 18 children, or the parents could seek home-schooling or private schools. Media reports did not specify exactly what needs to be done to resolve the sewage issue.

There are some strange laws in our country and even stranger religions but the Amish are the most gentle of all of them so why in the world would the judge sentence this man to jail over an outside bathroom at that.  I wish they had given more details as to what the problem was with the outhouse but they didn’t.    One things for sure, you have to admire the man for standing by his religious convictions.  It’s rare to find someone willing to stand up for much of anything in this day in time especially when it’s something they think is right!!!

So many in financial trouble

There are so many people in trouble with their finances and a lot of it has to do with credit card debt.  Credit cards have become a necessary evil in some ways with the economy tanking like it has.  People are losing their jobs, their houses and their credit too.  Bankruptcy is one answer but credit counseling is another.  Before you just give in and file bankruptcy, let me suggest you do a search of the Internet and find out what other help is available.  There’s a lot more out there than you think.  It just might not only save your credit, but a bit of your sanity too.

The King of Pop returns!

Well it looks like the King of Pop just might be returning to the stage.  Michael Jackson is a musical genius no matter what anyone else has to say about him.  He has had one of the longest careers in the music business and has had some of the biggest hits too.  Not to mention some of the best dance moves ever.

You have to stop and realize that people of his caliper of genius are different than most people and Michael Jackson is definitely different but no matter what, he is a great writer, singer and performer.  I really hope that I just might be able to see him live on stage.  That has to be one of the best natural highs ever.

Baby it’s cold outside!!!

Well we got the biggest snow in 5 years and we got it on March 1st.  Imagine that.  One good thing is we are in a moderate drought so hopefully the snow will help with that.  It’s not helping much with trying to get to work, that’s for sure.  In face, there was a back-up of about 30 miles in one direction and 20 miles in another on Interstate 85 at the North Carolina/South Carolina border that made national news.

People were stuck for hours on Interstate 85 so long that some of them even ran out of gas.  What happened is a tractor-trailer jackknifed and blocked the entire north bound lane.  Luckily no one was injured but they were stuck.  It looked more like a parking lot than a highway.  The red cross even had to put some people up in shelters before returning them to their cars along with a can of gas so they could leave the area.  I just hope this is the last of the white stuff we will see until next winter.  I’m sure I’m not the only one that hopes that too.
