I like the traditional styles in furniture and jewelry. My younger sister is more into the modern, industrial look. I’ve never quite been able to understand how someone could feel all warm and fuzzy when surrounded by a lot of stainless steel and chrome types of furnishings, but what the hey, it is what it is! So when she told me that she and Bob were looking at buying some tungsten rings for each other for their wedding bands, I guess I should not have been surprised. They are very modern looking, and from what I hear they are scratch proof.

She was showing me a website that sold titanium rings and tungsten rings, and I have to admit that I liked the look of the hammered titanium rings. I think that the hammered look is more of a traditional look than modern, don’t you? To be honest, I felt that the prices were a lot lower than I expected. I don’t know which one she will choose, but there were plenty of styles to choose from. I’m excited for her to be engaged!

Today I had the opportunity to have lunch with an old friend. We were close friends back in the early 1970′s but then she moved away from the area and we lost touch. Just recently I found her through a Facebook search and we discovered that we live very close to each other – only about a thirty minute drive between our houses! We got together at a Ruby Tuesday for lunch today, and it was really good seeing her. I was surprised to see she had changed her hair color! I’m not sure if I’ll ever get used to that!

But it was really grand being with her – we are definitely going to rekindle our friendship. I’ve missed having a good friend like her around to socialize with.

One of my all time favorite sayings is “don’t sweat the small stuff – and it’s all small stuff.” I know that is the title of a book, and if I recall correctly I bought that book a couple of weeks ago when I found a bunch of great used books on the goodwillbooks.com website. I ordered about ten books all at once because they were all under a dollar each. There just are not enough hours in the day for me to read all of the books that I want to read and still do all of the work that I need to get done.

Anyway, the starting point of this post was really to lament the observation that too many people get way too upset over trivial little details. Making mountains out of mole hills, starting arguments over nothing. It really is such a shame that so much energy is poured into so much negativity. We could accomplish so much more as a human race if we could turn that energy into positive energy!

One of the things that I really love about the Internet is how creative and different so many people can be when they create their web pages! For example, some people will focus on just one particular item, like how to make oversized candles with milk cartons and crushed ice, or dedicate themselves to raising money for a good cause. Still others will use the Internet to promote a political issue, or a particular candidate. And there are a lot of websites dedicated to religion and love, others are devoted to spreading hate. And some of my favorites are personal blogs, especially from my friends who love to travel; they post their adventures and pictures on their blogs. And let’s not forget the social media of facebook, and email!

Hackers and spammers get in there and try to create total havoc. I never could figure out why anyone would want to do that, I guess it’s just pure evil oozing out of their bodies, trying to ruin the capitalistic societies of the world. Where else could you push a button or two and switch from a screen that gives you a completely honest pacific hydrostar pressure washer review from fellow Internet users, and then a button push or two be able to find out where you can get some price comparisons for the same pacific hydrostar pressure washer, and then thirty seconds later buy a brand new wedding dress size 0 and pay for it all with PayPal? And then five seconds later get the up to date weather report for a country half-way around the world! What a great world this is!

Although I tried very hard to avoid going out this weekend and getting caught up in the mad shopping craze, I did decide to go out yesterday in support of Small Business Saturday. Seeing some of the commercials on television about how if every shopper bought just one item from a small local business that would help to stimulate our economy. So I went straight to my favorite local gift shop that features items that are made locally and did myself some shopping.

As it would happen, this gift shop is in the middle of the historic district of the renovated Old Town, which I love. The Old Town has been lovingly restored and the streets are lined with small Restaurants and Coffee Shops along with gift shops, boutiques, and specialty stores. A couple of the stores are converted old Hotels that went out of business decades ago. In the spirit of generating the Christmas spirit, I decided to walk down the length of the street so I could appreciate all of the wonderful Winter Wonderland window dressings that the store owners had prepared. Much to my delight, when I purchased my item the clerk at the corner told me that I was getting a 20% discount for purchasing the item on Small Business Saturday! Awesome!

All day long I was on edge yesterday. With it being the 10th anniversary of the tragedies of Sept 11 in New York City, Pennsylvania and the Pentagon, I was hoping that the date would not bring another attack on our country. But anniversaries can trigger a lot of weird things. Thank goodness we had no trouble. We cannot afford to let our guard down and we must remain vigilant. But I am grateful for every day that goes by without another series of sad events caused by the radicals in other other countries striking out against us.

There won’t be any small kids at this picnic – just us grownups. The only problem with having a gathering at the Lake is that you cannot reserve a spot – you have to just show up and hope that you can find an available grill and picnic table. So far we have been lucky to get a spot, but that is because we always get there early.

One of the people who is my friend now is Rachel. I know we would not have ever met if it was not for Facebook, as she lives over 600 miles away from me. But we have really connected. I hope to get to meet her someday – maybe even this summer if I get away for a little va-ca-tion!

I laid there for a moment and then decided to get on up and get an early start to my day. I was able to take my time eating breakfast and getting dressed. I feel really good about starting my day without rushing around. I hope the rest of the day is as good as my morning!
