Sometimes freeware is a trick

posted by:

There is nothing I like better than a great bargain! And what could be better than free? I LOVE free! Free is good! But when free brings with it a nasty virus that causes trouble, then free is a nasty trick. Today I was reading tips about trusted sources to download free software and learned that there are some trusted places that you can download free software, but that there are a lot of risks involved by going to other places.

I learned about this on a website whose main purpose is to rank and rate different web hosting services. Sometimes I’m amazed at how much information I learn by accident! Isn’t it funny how you start off reading a web page on a subject and then a link off to the side of the page catches your attention and before you know it you’ve gone off on so many tangents learning interesting things that after a while you forget what website you were on to start off with! Anyway, I just want to caution everyone about being careful with freeware – sometimes the download can be a virus.

The personality tests

posted by:

Recently I’ve been hearing a lot of talk about determining what kind of personality you are, and the others around you. The whole idea is that if you understand the different personality types it will be easier to get along with everyone and forgive their weaknesses, and celebrate their strengths. I’ve taken the little personality quiz and have to say that when I’m given the four different choices of which is “more” me, that I really have to say that I am ALL of the choices, not more one than the other. So I have the strengths of all of the choices, and darn few of the weaknesses of any of them. Yet I am too modest to claim myself to be perfect. Does that make me a good person, or a bad person? I don’t know, I really don’t.

Don’t sweat the small stuff

posted by:

One of my all time favorite sayings is “don’t sweat the small stuff – and it’s all small stuff.” I know that is the title of a book, and if I recall correctly I bought that book a couple of weeks ago when I found a bunch of great used books on the goodwillbooks.com website. I ordered about ten books all at once because they were all under a dollar each. There just are not enough hours in the day for me to read all of the books that I want to read and still do all of the work that I need to get done.

Anyway, the starting point of this post was really to lament the observation that too many people get way too upset over trivial little details. Making mountains out of mole hills, starting arguments over nothing. It really is such a shame that so much energy is poured into so much negativity. We could accomplish so much more as a human race if we could turn that energy into positive energy!

Ethics courses

posted by:

One of the most important courses any person can take is a course in ethics. Seems to me that lately there have been a lot of ethical violations in politics and business. That is, in my opinion, the biggest reason we (as a country) are in such a big mess. So I think that it is a good idea that every employer require every employee to take refresher ethics classes every year.

Especially people involved in tax preparation. I was surprised when Janice told me that she has to take a ea ethics course before the end of the year to be able to keep her job, but to be perfectly honest I am glad to hear it. Tax preparers especially are vulnerable to ethical challenges in the course of their jobs. It is good to know that ea cpe courses are available for free on the Internet. I think it is really important that this kind of education reaches everyone involved in the profession.

Now that’s really different

One of the things that I really love about the Internet is how creative and different so many people can be when they create their web pages! For example, some people will focus on just one particular item, like how to make oversized candles with milk cartons and crushed ice, or dedicate themselves to raising money for a good cause. Still others will use the Internet to promote a political issue, or a particular candidate. And there are a lot of websites dedicated to religion and love, others are devoted to spreading hate. And some of my favorites are personal blogs, especially from my friends who love to travel; they post their adventures and pictures on their blogs. And let’s not forget the social media of facebook, and email!

Hackers and spammers get in there and try to create total havoc. I never could figure out why anyone would want to do that, I guess it’s just pure evil oozing out of their bodies, trying to ruin the capitalistic societies of the world. Where else could you push a button or two and switch from a screen that gives you a completely honest pacific hydrostar pressure washer review from fellow Internet users, and then a button push or two be able to find out where you can get some price comparisons for the same pacific hydrostar pressure washer, and then thirty seconds later buy a brand new wedding dress size 0 and pay for it all with PayPal? And then five seconds later get the up to date weather report for a country half-way around the world! What a great world this is!
