Almost Out of Salt

posted by:

This is the third snowfall that we have had this winter and the county where I live just announced that they are almost out of salt.  This means that the back roads will be dangerous with snow and ice until the sun melts them because there is not enough salt to cover all the roads.

I think this is irresponsible and bad planning on the part of the highway department or who ever is in charge of ordering salt. We should be able to have enough on hand to get through the worst winter, not the lightest.

Pocket Knife

posted by:

Years ago a vendor gave me a little Swiss Army knife as a thank you gift. It is one of the very little ones. The knife blade is only about an inch and a half long, but it does cut. I use the scissors and the tweezers more than any of the other parts. It actually hangs on my key ring and I take it everywhere I go.

Would you believe that when I went to the courthouse to help a friend pay off a traffic ticket that the guards at the door confiscated it? They said it is a weapon. FML.

No Raises – No Bonuses

posted by:

The boss sent out an email today saying that there is a company-wide hiring freeze. He also says that until our sales and revenue numbers go up, there will be no raises or bonuses.

That really sucks, because I was promised a big raise this year and that is part of the reason that I took this job instead of a different one. I was counting on the raise to make my salary competitive and give me the things I need at home. I don’t know if things will even turn around this year at all. Obama hasn’t done much of anything yet and I’m sick of not having any money.

Hey, I can help others too

I was talking a couple of days ago about getting out some.  Well a good friend of mine was telling me about the local Disabled American Veterans Post (DAV) and how they play bingo on Sundays.  The money goes to help disabled veterans in the community and also to help the wives of active service men who are in need too.   Imagine that, I can have fun and help veterans too.  I love it.  Bingo for Charity is everywhere around here and I think it’s a great thing.  A lot of churches, Veterans of Foreign War Posts (VFW) and other places participate in those types of charities.

Now I have never gone into an online bingo site to see if they do the same thing but I might now since I have realized just how much bingo does help others.  There are so many in need these days that we all need to find a way to pitch in and help those less fortunate than us.  If you can also have fun doing it, it sure makes people want to participate more.  Who benefits, those in need are the ones that benefit and that’s the way it should be.  Well, that’s my opinion anyway.

Sounds like a good idea to me

On Tuesday, the Senate health committee voted 12-11 in favor of a two-page amendment courtesy of Republican Tom Coburn that would require all Members and their staffs to enroll in any new government-run health plan. It took me less than a minute to sign up to require our congressmen and senators to drink at the same trough! Three cheers for Congressman John Fleming of Louisiana !

Congressman John Fleming (Louisiana physician) has proposed an amendment that would require congressmen and senators to take the same health care plan they force on us (under proposed legislation they are curiously exempt).

Congressman Fleming is encouraging people to go on his Website and sign his petition (very simple – just first, last and email). I have immediately done just that at:  http://fleming.house.gov/index.html.  Please urge as many people as you can to do the same!

If Congress forces this on the American people, the Congressmen should have to accept the same level of health care for themselves and their families.
