Sounds like a good idea to me

posted by:

On Tuesday, the Senate health committee voted 12-11 in favor of a two-page amendment courtesy of Republican Tom Coburn that would require all Members and their staffs to enroll in any new government-run health plan. It took me less than a minute to sign up to require our congressmen and senators to drink at the same trough! Three cheers for Congressman John Fleming of Louisiana !

Congressman John Fleming (Louisiana physician) has proposed an amendment that would require congressmen and senators to take the same health care plan they force on us (under proposed legislation they are curiously exempt).

Congressman Fleming is encouraging people to go on his Website and sign his petition (very simple – just first, last and email). I have immediately done just that at:  http://fleming.house.gov/index.html.  Please urge as many people as you can to do the same!

If Congress forces this on the American people, the Congressmen should have to accept the same level of health care for themselves and their families.

Fund raiser

posted by:

My local high school has been having yard sales all summer as a fund raiser to help them get new  lockers.  I think that’s a great idea.  The kids have collected donations of items to sell and now they’re able to buy new gym lockers with just from a little help from the community.  The really cool part of this is a business donated 100 new school lockers to the school too.

Yeah they need a lot more than that but hopefully other business with find lockers for sale and purchase them for the school too.  I’m talking to my boss to see if we can donate some since we just got new wooden lockers ourselves.  We know where to get them from after all.  With all of the budget cuts in the school system, we all have to do what we can to help out our children so they can get the best education possible.  Well that’s my opinion anyway!!!  Hey I wonder if I could buy a locker unit from them just to put in my basement to hold stuff??

I am not racist at all but I have always wondered about this

My cousin sent me this in an email and like the title says, I’m not racist or predigest but I have always wondered about this and maybe it’s time someone did what Michael Richards did and put it in words.  Remember he got in trouble for saying the ‘N’ word on stage during his comedy routine.

Michael Richards makes his point…………..Michael Richards better known as Kramer from TVs Seinfeld does make a good point. This was his defense speech in court after making racial comments in his comedy act. He makes some very interesting points…

Someone finally said it. How many are actually paying attention to this? There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Arab Americans, etc. And then there are just Americans. You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction. You call me ‘White boy,’ ‘Cracker,’ ‘Honkey,’ ‘Whitey,’ ‘Caveman’… and that’s OK.  But when I call you, Nigger, Kike, Towel head, Sand-nigger, Camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink .  You call me a racist. You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you… so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?

You have the United Negro College Fund. You have Martin Luther King Day. You have Black History Month. You have Cesar Chavez Day. You have Yom Hashoah. You have Ma’uled Al-Nabi. You have the NAACP. You have BET… If we had WET (White Entertainment Television), we’d be racists.

If we had a White Pride Day, you would call us racists.  If we had White History Month, we’d be racists. If we had any organization for only whites to ‘advance’ OUR lives, we’d be racists.

We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce. Wonder who pays for that??

A white woman could not be in the Miss Black America pageant, but any color can be in the Miss America pageant. If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships… You know we’d be racists.

There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US. Yet if there were ‘White colleges’, that would be a racist college. In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists.

You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you’re not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists. You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist.

I am proud… But you call me a racist. Why is it that only whites can be racists?? There is nothing improper about this statement. I sadly don’t think many will share it with others. That’s why we have LOST most of OUR RIGHTS in this country. We won’t stand up for ourselves!

BE PROUD TO BE WHITE!  It’s not a crime YET… but getting very close!

Since we’re talking about Congress

My older sister sent this to me and I almost rolled in the floor when I read it.  I mean no disrespect to anyone in DC but these are supposed to be true quotes:

A DC airport ticket agent offers some examples:

1. I had a New Hampshire Congresswoman ask for an aisle seat so that her hair wouldn’t get messed up by being near the  window.                (On  an airplane!)

2. I got a call from a candidate’s staffer, who wanted to go to Cape Town. While I started to explain the length of the flight and  the   passport information, she interrupted me with, “I’m not trying to make you look stupid, but Cape Town is in Massachusetts.  ” Without trying to make her look stupid, I calmly explained, “Cape Cod is in Massachusetts, Cape Town is in Africa”  Her response – click.

3. A senior Vermont Congressman called, furious about a Florida package we did. I asked what was wrong with the vacation in Orlando. He said he was expecting an ocean-view room. I tried to explain that is not possible, since Orlando is in the middle of the state. He replied, ‘Don’t lie to me, I looked on the map and Florida is a very thin state!’ (OMG)

4. I got a call from a lawmaker’s wife who asked, “Is it possible to see England from Canada?” I said, “No.” She said, “But they look so close on the map.” (OMG, again!)

5. An aide for a cabinet member once called and asked if he could rent a car in Dallas. When I pulled up the reservation, I noticed he had only a 1-hour layover in Dallas. When I asked him why he wanted to rent a car, he said, “I heard Dallas was a big airport, and we will need a car to drive between gates to save time.” (Aghhhh)

6. An Illinois Congresswoman called last week. She needed to know how it was possible that her flight from Detroit left at 8:30 a.m., and got to Chicago at 8:33 a.m. I explained that Michigan was an hour ahead of Illinois, but she couldn’t understand the concept of time zones. Finally, I told her the plane went fast, and she bought that.

7. A New York lawmaker called and asked, “Do airlines put your physical description on your bag so they know whose luggage belongs to whom?” I said, ‘No, why do you ask?’  She replied, “Well, when I checked in with the airline, they put a tag on my luggage that said (FAT), and I’m overweight. I think that’s very rude!” After putting her on hold for a minute, while I looked into it (I was dying laughing), I came back and explained the city code for Fresno , CA is (FAT – Fresno Air Terminal), and the airline was just putting a destination tag on her luggage.

8. A Senator’s aide called to inquire about a trip package to Hawaii. After going over all the cost info, she asked, ‘”Would it be cheaper to fly to California , and then take the train to Hawaii?”

9. I just got off the phone with a freshman Congressman who asked, “How do I know which plane to get on?” I asked him what exactly he meant, to which he replied, “I was told my flight number is 823, but none of these planes have numbers on them.”

10. A lady Senator called and said, “I need to fly to Pepsi-Cola, Florida. Do I have to get on one of those little computer planes?” I asked if she meant fly to Pensacola , FL on a commuter plane. She said, “Yeah, whatever, smarty!”

11. A senior Senator called and had a question about the documents he needed in order to fly to China . After a lengthy discussion about passports, I reminded him that he needed a visa. “Oh, no I don’t. I’ve been to China many times and never had to have one of those.” I double checked and sure enough, his stay required a visa. When I told him this he said, “Look, I’ve been to China four times and every time they have accepted my American Express!” Duh!

12. A New Mexico Congress woman called to make reservations, “I want to go from Chicago to Rhino, New York.” I was at a loss for words. Finally, I said, “Are you sure that’s the name of the town?” “Yes, what flights do you have?” replied the lady. After some searching, I came back with, “I’m sorry, ma’am, I’ve looked up every airport code in the country and can’t find a Rhino anywhere.” “The lady retorted, “Oh, don’t be silly! Everyone knows where it is. Check your map!” So I scoured a map of the state of New York and finally offered, ‘You don’t mean Buffalo , do you?’ The reply?  “Whatever! I knew it was a big animal.”

Now you know why the Government is in the shape that it’s in! Could anyone be this DUMB? And some people want them to handle our health care????????

Time to start thinking about vacation

posted by:

It’s the time of year when everyone starts thinking about their summer vacation.  But here’s something I found every interesting.  Did you know that in Europe, workers are given far more paid vacation time than we are here?  I have a close friend that now lives in England and he was telling me that they get about 4 weeks per year to take whenever they want to go on ‘holiday’ as they call it there.  Here, we have to usually work a full year before we are given just one week of paid vacation a year.  In fact, you have to work about 5 years or more to earn 4 weeks of vacation time.  Why is this?  Are they more valued in England than we are here in the US?  They are happier workers that’s for sure because of the time they get off.  I think it’s time we worked to ‘Save our Summer Vacation’ . There is a movement by petitioning Congress to proclaim August 7 as a “National Vacation Day.” Get your friends and family to sign the petition NOW so that we can hopefully have this day passed in Congress!

My dream vacation has always been to go Ireland.  I guess it’s because of my Irish roots.  In fact, I am mostly Scotch-Irish and long to see the rolling emerald colored hills.  I have sat and looked at every picture I could find of Ireland and find it to be an absolutely fascinating and beautiful country.  When ‘Riverdance’ came out, I was absolutely mesmerized watching them do the Irish jig.  Perfect unison and absolutely breath taking to watch.  I must admit that I have checked out HomeAway Vacation Rentals to see how much it would take for me to take that dream vacation.  I have my special ‘vacation’ fund set up so that I can take that vacation as soon as possible.  It’s not nearly as expensive as I thought it would be thanks to HomeAway.  Maybe you could find your perfect vacation spot and they’ll find most everything else you need to make that dream come true for you too.
