A couple of months ago I bought some Himalayan salt lamps for Christmas presents to give to some family members. They are supposed to absorb moisture and deodorize. In addition they are supposed to have some health benefits, relating to mood improvement. Knowing some family members would really enjoy having them, partly because they are pretty, and partly because of their holistic approach to better health, I went ahead and bought a couple of them to tuck away and give them as presents at a later time.

Much to my surprise, a couple of weeks later one of the intended recipients told me that she was thinking about buying one of those Himalayan salt lamps online. She showed me the picture of what she wanted, and it was exactly the same one that I had already bought for her! I told her that I had bought one for her for her Christmas present, and not to buy one herself. She asked me to give it to her now because she wanted to start “enjoying the benefits” immediately. Well, I agreed and I gave it to her. She was happy and took it home with her.

Less than a week later she told me that her daughter told her that she hated it, that it made her feel depressed instead of happy, and she gave the lamp back to me and asked me to give her something different for Christmas. I agreed to do that, and now I am using it in one of my bathrooms. I like how it deodorizes and helps to dehumidify the room. As for the original recipient, well, I ended up giving her a gift card to Wal-Mart. I know she buys things there, and I think that maybe I’ll just keep giving her gift cards in the future.

Yesterday I called my mother just to say hello and tell her that I love her. She is eighty years old now and I am very aware that every day that she is alive and healthy is a blessing and a gift. When I think back on the many years past that we were at odds with each other I feel very sad for the time we lost that we could have had together. I am absolutely NOT ready for her to leave this world and go into the great unknown. So when I call her and she tells me that she is worried about some aspect of her health I worry too.

Recently she was in the hospital because of blood clots in her lungs. That really worried me. A lot. Now the doctors say that the blood clots are gone (that’s a good thing!) but that they have found something in one of her lungs that they might need to biopsy. My mother has never been a smoker, but her parents WERE smokers. I am worried that she may have something terribly wrong with her and that the doctors might say that because of her advanced age that they don’t want to treat her.

So right now we are waiting for consultations and test results. Sitting on the edges of our chairs. Trying to remain positive, and cheerful, and worried sick. And if I may pass on a little advice to you, it would be to call YOUR mother to say hello and tell her that you love her. There will be a time when you won’t be able to do that.

One of the biggest contributors to the problem of obesity in my opinion, is the sad fact that Americans are too rushed. The financial pressures that they are under are causing them to work more hours, which leaves them less time to cook nutritious meals. Because of that lack of time they end up buying quick-fix short-cut convenience meals which taste really fantastic, but have too much salt, too much fat, too many calories, too many additives, too much everything bad for you and darn little anything good for you.

To make the problem worse, the foods that are good for you are more expensive to purchase than the foods that are not healthy. So when a person is short on time and short on money then they are going to go to the fast and cheap meal. I know that there are families where all of the adults work outside the home and are happy with their jobs because they have rewarding careers and are making great money and can afford to hire people to help raise the children and cook good and nutritious meals, but that is not the majority of the families in America. I sure wish that it WAS the majority of the families, but it isn’t. And now I think that I had better end this post before I start a political ranting that will prove to my readers that I am a nutcase!

Today when I was at the check-out counter at the market, I saw a Skinny Cow chocolate candy bar for sale on the end cap. I was hungry for a snack, and remembered that I had tried one a few months back when I had a coupon for a free one. I don’t see them prominently displayed at the stores, and I remembered that I liked it quite well. So I went ahead and bought three of them. Ate one right off and brought the other two home for later snacks. I hope that this company does well and that the product becomes easier to find. Just my luck, though, everything I like goes out of business! I hope that isn’t the case for the Skinny Cow products!

One of the things that I struggle with on almost a daily basis is how to stay nice to people who keep asking you the same question repeatedly after you have answered the question. That probably means that I shouldn’t ever try to get a career caring for senior citizens, doesn’t it?

Today I ran into some people that I had met a couple of months ago at a business meeting, and they recognized me, and although I tried to avoid them it was impossible to do so. I ended up sitting next to them at a presentation. They kept asking me questions that I could not answer, and I was having a hard time staying nice to them. After all, how many times do I have to say “I don’t know” to the same question? I wonder if my intolerence is based in my own fear that some day I will be an old imbecile myself. I hate to think that will happen any time soon, and I hope that if and when it happens that other people will be more tolerent of me than I feel that I have been. I feel guilty about that.

When I was sitting down this afternoon to eat my late lunch of peanut butter and honey sandwich and a glass of water (yes, I really am trying to save money) I noticed that my son was watching an episode of “House” on television. I was only there for a couple of minutes, but I watched it while I was there. I learned something very interesting in that couple of minutes; sorbital is used as an artificial sweetener in sugar-free products, such as gum. It is also used by the medical profession as a laxative! Now that I know that, I will keep that in mind the next time I am having stomach troubles!

This morning I went to a business networking meeting in town at the local IHOP. There are a lot of different businesses that send a representative to the meetings, and it is always interesting to go and see who shows up and what they have to say. One of the ladies that always shows up is an employee of a dermatologist in town. She always talks about dry skin, wrinkles, and Acne. She always brings a book or two with her and says that her bosses are the authors of the book. The way that she talks about the products that they sell, it sounds to me as if they are selling something very similar to the Resurgence skin care product that my sister recently purchased with the Murad Coupon Codes that she found on the Internet.

They all sound like fine products, and I’m very curious to see how much my sister likes the Resurgence once it arrives. We’re both of the age where we are interested in minimizing the wrinkles that are starting to appear on our faces. A lot of people tell me that I look younger than I really am, but I think that they are just being kind. Skin care is near the top of my priority list this year, time is marching on too fast!

Have you been hearing the news stories about how several orange juice companies have been reporting a fungicide being found in some of their orange juice that came from Brazil? What I’ve been hearing is that small amounts of the stuff has been found, and that the amounts are supposedly within the safe amount allowed, but the juice is being recalled just the same. Apparently tha amount of fungicide that has been found is allowed in other countries, but not in the United States of America.

When I hear about how some things are allowed in other countries but not in the USA, I have to wonder why the other countries are allowing it. Were the officials bribed, or do they just not care?

For several years, I’ve been wearing compression socks to ease the pain and aching in my legs caused by varicose veins. The first pair of socks that I wore were actually a pair of pantyhose and they were given to me by my mother, when I was pregnant and my legs were in agony. I thought they were wonderful!

After I had given birth, I wanted to buy a pair of pantyhose that were not maternity and that was when I ran into an obstacle – I could not find them for sale in the local stores anywhere. When I went into the local pharmacy to ask about them they told me that they were a special order item, and the brand that I had used in the past was not something they could order. They only carried the Jobst brand, so I went ahead and ordered them. Since then I’ve learned that there are several brands on the market, but Jobst is the brand that my doctors always recommend.
