What is up with this donut hole

posted by:

As my parents age, I find myself having to take a more active role in making sure that they are kept healthy. Part of that responsibility includes making sure that they get to their doctor appointments and that there prescriptions are filled when they need to be filled. All of the recent talk I’ve been hearing on the television about how Congress is considering cutting the senior citizens social security benefits and their medicare scares the bejeezus out of me! Most of the senior citizens that I know are not well off financially, and they can’t afford that stupid donut hole situation in their medicare part d.

In my opinion, all senior citizens should get free medical care. No ifs, ands, or buts. For this country to turn it’s back on them is unthinkable and heartless. Congress should cut their own medical benefits before they even think about cutting anyone else’s medical benefits.

Dental Records

How do the police get the infamous dental records when they have to identify people? Are dentists required by law to forward all their records to some central tracking system? This freaks me out and I wonder if I have the right to tell the dentist that I don’t want any more x-rays taken or don’t want my records sent away. This really is an invasion of privacy and makes me wonder what other records are being sent out without my knowledge or permission?

Be Gentle to Yourself

be-gentle

This is good advice. Sometimes we get down on ourselves. It is much better to be gentle with ourselves. I am going to spend the entire day with positive and upbeat self-speak. Why don’t you try it, too?

6 Responsibilities of a Professional Social Worker

posted by:

Professional social workers have many responsibilities. These responsibilities are both consistent and changing depending on who a social worker might be working with on any given day but there are general responsibilities that must always be met. Here are 6 responsibilities of a professional social worker.

Interview And Evaluate Problems

Social workers interview people and evaluate their problems. Sometimes people need help dealing with their problems and that is where social workers come in. They need to interview their clients to pinpoint the problems and the underlying issues causing those problems so that the next step of working to fix those problems can be taken.

Provide Counseling For Clients

Social workers provide counseling for their clients. Clients often need to work on communication skills and on dealing with emotions. They need to know how to work toward fixing their problems and how to make lasting changes in their lives. Social workers provide needed counseling, even when their counseling is to suggest more counseling from another professional.

Provide Counseling For Client Families

Social workers also provide counseling for the families of clients. Problems don’t just affect an individual. They affect everyone around that individual. Sometimes client families need to see how they are contributing to problems and oftentimes they just need help coping effectively with what’s going on. Social workers help families to handle the situation more effectively.

Create Treatment Plans

Social workers create treatment plans so that there is a clearly mapped out course of action in place so that real changes can be made. More than creating these plans, social workers strive to get their clients to take an active part in carrying out these plans. This is one of the challenging parts of the process.

Connect Clients To Assistance

Clients often need more resources than the social worker can provide so the social worker helps the client to connect to these resources. These resources may be treatment programs, support groups, or whatever else the client might need. The social worker already gives the client many of the tools that a client needs to cope with life and with problems through counseling but sometimes additional ongoing tools are needed. By connecting a client to these resources the social worker fulfills their responsibility to make is a strong possibility that their client will be able to fix or at least cope with their problems.

Talk To Health Professionals

The social worker will also talk directly to health professionals so that these professionals know what they need to know about the social worker’s client. This is especially necessary when a client has psychological challenges that could interfere with proper treatment if a health professional is not aware of them or does not understand them.

Social workers have many responsibilities in helping people to live better lives. What one client needs may not be what another client needs so social workers need to be able to provide different services and connect clients up to different types of assistance depending on what is needed. In the end, a social worker’s responsibility is to do what it takes to help their clients live better lives.
