Winter chill

posted by:

So far the winter has been very mild. I was watching the television news last night and they were talking about how the ski slopes in New England did not have enough snow yet. The skiing industry is very important to New England; I hope they get lots of snow so their economy gets a good boost from it. As for me personally, though, I like how pretty snow is, and I remember I enjoyed playing in the snow when I was younger, and it puts me in the Christmas spirit – it makes me want to go shopping and drink hot chocolate and decorate the house! When I HAVE to drive in the bad weather to go to work, however, that puts me in a bah-humbug frame of mind!

A walk down memory lane

One of the things I enjoy about our family gatherings is the fact that one of my brothers took a lot of our old family 8mm silent movies and converted them onto a DVD. He puts it on and it runs the entire time we are partying – there are many hours of entertainment to be had watching them! One of my favorite videos that he converted was a movie that my older sister had staged as a school assignment of some kind.

She was the director, and my boyfriend and I were the stars of the show. The scene started in one of the bigger neighborhood parks. At the time it was supposed to be a romantic comedy of boy chases girl to steal a kiss. Thinking about that, nowadays that would be a scary stalker movie! The video starts out with the female star (me) sitting in a covered shelter filled with Picnic Tables. I was eating an apple while reading a book. My boyfriend sneaked up behind me, tapped me on my shoulder and when I turned around he plants a kiss on my lips! Then I slapped him across his cheek and started to run. And he started to chase. The chase was in the style of the Keystone Cops. We ran over top of Park Benches, through the various forms of playground equipment, going down slides, ended up running out into the neighborhood and “stealing” bicycles and tricycles to continue the chase.

Of course it all sounds so lame, but when my family sees that video, the room rocks with peals of laughter at our silliness. Sometimes a walk down memory lane can be good fun.

I’m not ready

People ask me if I’m ready for Christmas. I have to say that no, I’m not ready. I still have the house to clean and decorate, presents to wrap. I just can’t get motivated to do what needs to be done. I’m not normally someone who puts things off until the last minute, but lately I’ve been procrastinating. I hope it is just a case of the seasonal blues that some people get. What I don’t understand about it is that I normally LOVE Christmas, and I could go into a Christmas theme store and spend hours looking at all of the things. I love the bright colors, and the glittery sparkle. Maybe it is a depression over how difficult life has been lately, with the bad economy and the cost of living continuing to climb. One thing is for sure; Christmas will be here soon, ready or not! I better get my rear in gear!

Girls are harder to shop for

posted by:

Boys are easy, girls on the other hand, they had the longest lists and the most expensive things on their lists too.  Go figure, right?  I should have expected that because that’s the way I am too.

Heather wants a gold necklace with a heart on it.  Imagine that, that’s what I was going to get her to begin with.  Dawn wants a ring.  She doesn’t care what is on it, she just wants a ring so I thought about getting her a birthstone ring.  Her birthday is in June.  I’m not sure what stone that is but I’ll find out.  She has such small hands that it’s going to be hard to get the right size.

Amanda wants an MP3 player.  That’s about the easiest gift on any one’s list.  Carley wants a PSP.  Go figure.  She would have had a cow if I had gotten the boys one and not her.  Then there’s Nicole.  She wants money, just money and lots of it.  So she’s getting a Visa gift card for some money but not lots of it.

The main problem with the girls is I’ll have to go to a jewelry store for some of the things but with the others, I found them online and they’re on their way here as we speak.  With that, that takes care of all my nieces and nephews.

Somebody stop me!

Wow Christmas shopping is so hard for me to do! I don’t have a clue what most of the people on my shopping list would like to get for Christmas, but when I go out to the stores to look for stuff I find so many things that I want to have for myself that are marked down so cheap that I end up buying a lot of things for myself instead of things for other people! I feel so guilty about that, but to be honest there ARE a lot of things that I’ve put off buying because of the price, and now the price is right!

Christmas is getting really close though, and I’m starting to panic that I’m not going to be getting any great ideas on gifts for those hard to shop for people. I hate to be copping out by giving them gift cards, but I’m starting to think that is what I am going to have to do!
