One of the things that I find so difficult about holiday shopping is the fact that there are so many neat things for sale that I want to keep for myself! I hardly ever get the things that I want as gifts, so it is hard to resist the temptation to buy all those goodies for myself. If I go ahead and buy everything I want to buy for everyone else AND the things that I want for myself I’ll be in debt up to my eyeballs! Oh the agony of it all!

A walk through Historic Old Town
Although I tried very hard to avoid going out this weekend and getting caught up in the mad shopping craze, I did decide to go out yesterday in support of Small Business Saturday. Seeing some of the commercials on television about how if every shopper bought just one item from a small local business that would help to stimulate our economy. So I went straight to my favorite local gift shop that features items that are made locally and did myself some shopping.
As it would happen, this gift shop is in the middle of the historic district of the renovated Old Town, which I love. The Old Town has been lovingly restored and the streets are lined with small Restaurants and Coffee Shops along with gift shops, boutiques, and specialty stores. A couple of the stores are converted old Hotels that went out of business decades ago. In the spirit of generating the Christmas spirit, I decided to walk down the length of the street so I could appreciate all of the wonderful Winter Wonderland window dressings that the store owners had prepared. Much to my delight, when I purchased my item the clerk at the corner told me that I was getting a 20% discount for purchasing the item on Small Business Saturday! Awesome!
Did you shop for Small Business Saturday?
I was not planning to go out at all today, but I have a few friends that have small businesses and I wanted to show them my support for small business Saturday. I was saddened by how sparse the shopping crowds in their stores were. I made sure that the items that I was buying were made in the USA and I did buy a couple of things for some Christmas gifts, and wished them all the best of luck through the Holiday shopping season. The crowds were probably still in the big box chain stores, which worried me a little bit. I hope business picks up for my friends!
Happy Thanksgiving
I have a crazy family, and you never know when we all get together who is going to be mad at who, and whether or not anyone is going to start a big fight. So I was a little bit nervous about having the family over for Thanksgiving this year. I made sure to speak to everyone that was invited about how nervous I was and told everyone that if they were even thinking about saying or doing anything that was going to instigate a fight that they had better not even show up, or they needed to resolve the issue a different day and a different place.
I think that it worked; everyone behaved themselves and had a good time. I was very glad for that, let me tell you! And I’m quite tired out, but it is a good tired.
Where did the fancy butter go?
Last year I noticed that the grocery stores were selling butter that had been molded into the shape of turkeys, and I bought a pound of it to use during Thanksgiving dinner. But in all of the big hub-bub of the dinner, I actually forgot to put it out until when I was putting the leftovers away! So I ended up saving it until Christmas and using it then. The butter did not go to waste. This year I was looking at the grocery stores for the molded butter again and could not find it anywhere! I wonder what in the world happened to it! Was that just a local decision, was there not enough profit in it last year? Where did it go?
