Guest post by Lucinda Barkeley

Have you ever been the victim of collection harassment for money that you didn’t even owe? Let me tell you, having collection calls from companies when you really owe them the money is bad enough, but when you don’t even have an account with the company that is harassing you it can make you crazy mad! It all started out innocently enough, there was a phone call from a collection agency asking to speak with a person that I had never heard of before. It was one of those recordings, that says “if you are this person, please hold on for an important message, if you are not this person, please hang up now.” So I hung up. And hung up again. And again.

Got to the point where I was hanging up on the collection calls more often than I was talking to people who I actually knew! I had no idea how to stop collection harassment for good with this robo company. Finally I decided that I’d just go ahead and take the call as if I WAS the person that they were looking for, thinking that I could explain to the operator that there was nobody here by that name, and would they please take my telephone number off of their robo collection call procedures. Well, the representative did not want to believe that I was not the person that they were looking for, and gave me a really hard time about it. I asked to speak to the supervisor, and was told that the supervisor was “in a meeting” and could not be disturbed. So I left a message for the supervisor to call me. (Supervisor never DID call me!) But about forty-five minutes later the robo call comes in again.

Margie suggested that I do two things at this point – to Google “stop collection harassment California” and see what resources I can use to make this stop, and to use my telephone features to block the telephone number that the collection calls are coming from. D-UH – why didn’t I think of call-block before? Ah, sweet, sweet peace and quiet; I love you!

Who would have thought when they sent their daughter off to college that they would end up needing to hire a california criminal lawyer to get her out of trouble? Lynne called home to give us the news that her best friend and room-mate was arrested last night for possession of stolen property. She didn’t give us the details of what the stolen property was, but I’m guessing that it was pretty significant if she was going to need to hire a
los angeles criminal defense lawyer to try to get her out of trouble.

Is it my imagination, or is raising kids today more difficult than in previous generations? When I was growing up, it seemed that I didn’t know anyone who had been in legal trouble. Now it seems that almost everyone I know is related to at least one person that has a criminal record. I think that is a sad commentary for today’s society. Are these people turning to crime because they are lazy, stupid, or desperate?

When I was younger and in school we were taught that most crimes were basically the result of desperation from poverty, but more and more it seems that crimes are the result of greed. Plain and simple greed. And that scares me.

David was telling me that he was thinking about partnering with Merle in a cash advance affiliate program that he found out about through Blue Global Media. Apparently he was impressed by their website, and he thinks that with his Business degree and Merle’s accounting degree that they can make a success out of the venture.

I’m a little bit nervous about the venture because I’ve heard that some states are thinking about making payday loans illegal, but David and Merle are confident that won’t happen in this state. They are already picking out their storefront site and talking about payday loan leads and are very excited about the whole thing. I hope that they are not biting off more than they can chew!

Well today is my grandparents 54th wedding anniversary. That’s a long time to be married to one person but unfortunately, their generation is just about the last generation to see their first and only marriage last. I too am in the process of getting a divorce but because my husband left me. I just wish he would have been able to admit to himself that he was gay before we got married. It sure would have been a lot easier on both of us.

I have absolutely nothing against gay people. In fact, I think they should have the right to some type of ‘union’ just as straight people do. In fact, I have seen some gay relationships last longer than straight relationships tend to and with that in mind, they should have some of the same rights that married people have. It doesn’t have to be called a marriage if that word bothers people that believe two men or two women can’t marry. Like I said earlier in this post, they should be able to have a ‘union’ if that word suits straight people better. But that is my opinion and it’s a shame it’s not the opinion of more people.

If this doesn’t make you smile, then you really need a vacation. A friend of mine showed me this and I thought it was so very cute. Hopefully it will at least make you smile.

A senior citizen drove his brand new Corvette convertible out of the dealership. Taking off down the road, he pushed it to 80 mph, enjoying the wind blowing through what little hair he had left. “Amazing,” he thought as he flew down I-75, pushing the pedal even more.

Looking in his rear view mirror, he saw a State-Trooper behind him, blue lights flashing and the siren blaring. He floored it to 100 mph, then 110, then 120. Suddenly he thought, “What am I doing? I’m too old for this,” and pulled over to await the trooper’s arrival.

Pulling in behind him, the trooper walked up to the Corvette, looked at his watch and said, “Sir, my shift ends in 15 minutes. Today is Friday. If you can give me a reason for speeding that I’ve never heard before, I’ll let you go.”

The old gentleman paused then said, “Three years ago, my wife ran off with a State-Trooper. I thought you were bringing her back.”

The trooper replied, “Sir, you have a good day.

I just got this joke and thought it was just too funny. I had to share it with you. I hope you find as much humor in it as I did.

Defense Attorney: Will you please state your age?

Little Old Lady: I am 86 years old.

Defense Attorney: Will you tell us, in your own words, what happened the night of April 1st?

Little Old Lady: There I was, sitting there in my swing on my front porch on a warm spring evening, when a young man comes creeping up on the porch and sat down beside me.

Defense Attorney: Did you know him?

Little Old Lady: No, but he sure was friendly..

Defense Attorney: What happened after he sat down?

Little Old Lady: He started to rub my thigh.

Defense Attorney: Did you stop him?

Little Old Lady: No, I didn’t stop him.

Defense Attorney: Why not?

Little Old Lady: It felt good. Nobody had done that since my Albert died some 30 years ago..

Defense Attorney: What happened next?

Little Old Lady: He began to rub my breasts.

Defense Attorney: Did you stop him then?

Little Old Lady: No, I did not stop him.

Defense Attorney: Why not?

Little Old Lady: His rubbing made me feel all alive and excited. I haven’t felt that good in years!

Defense Attorney: What happened next?

Little Old Lady: Well, by then, I was feeling so ‘spicy’ that I just laid down and told him ‘Take me, young man. Take me now!’

Defense Attorney: Did he take you?

Little Old Lady: Hell, no! He just yelled, ‘April Fool!’ And that’s when I shot him, the little bastard..

Lesson to this story? Never mess with an old lady unless you mean business because she sure does HA HA HA!!!!

I thought this was a great email and just had to share it!! I love what this guys T shirt says too!!!

Some “dirtbag” in Polk County Florida who got pulled over in a routine traffic stop ended up “executing” the deputy who stopped him. The deputy was shot eight times, including once behind his right ear at close range. Another deputy was wounded and a police dog killed. A statewide manhunt ensued. The low-life was found hiding in a wooded area with his gun.

SWAT team officers fired and hit the guy 68 times. Naturally, the media asked why they shot him 68 times. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, told the Orlando Sentinel: “That’s all the bullets we had!” (Talk about an all time classic great answer!!!)

But wait, there’s more!

I was once asked by a lady visiting if I had a gun in our home. I said I did. She said ‘Well I certainly hope it isn’t loaded!’ To which I said, of course it is loaded, can’t work without bullets!’ She then asked, ‘Are you that afraid of someone evil coming into your house?’ My reply was, ‘No not at all. I am not afraid of the house catching fire either, but I have fire extinguishers around, and they are all loaded too.’ To which I’ll add, having a gun in the house that isn’t loaded is like having a car in the garage without gas in the tank.

Most of the ladies at work just kept their purses and other things they have brought with them in a drawer or cabinet at their desk. Well it seems that someone took one of our ladies purses the other day. We don’t think it was anyone that works here. It was probably one of the cleaning people that come in early or a client. Because of that, they are now installing lockers for us. Oh they’re not the ones like we had for school lockers, they’re really nice wooden lockers so they will add to the decor.

I was really hoping they wouldn’t look like when had put in a gym and now had gym lockers in the back and luckily, these are really nice. I know that might sound a bit silly to you but like I have always said, I like the finer things in life so when they started looking for lockers for sale, I was holding my breath. But you know what? I do feel like my belongings are a lot safer now by putting them in a locker.

I think the vast differences in compensation between victims of the September 11 casualty and those who die serving our country in Uniform are profound No one is really talking about it either, because you just don’t criticize anything having to do with September 11. Well, I can’t let the numbers pass by because it says something really disturbing about the entitlement mentality of this country. If you lost a family member in the September 11 attack, you’re going to get an average of $1,185,000. The range is a minimum guarantee of $250,000, all the way up to $4.7 million.

If you are a surviving family member of an American soldier killed in action, the first check you get is a $6,000 direct death benefit, half of which is taxable.
Next, you get $1,750 for burial costs. If you are the surviving spouse, you get $833 a month until you remarry. And there’s a payment of $211 per month for each child under 18. When the child hits 18, those payments come to a screeching halt.

Keep in mind that! some of the people who are getting an average of $1.185 million up to $4.7 million are complaining that it’s not enough. Their deaths were tragic, but for most, they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Soldiers put themselves in harms way FOR ALL OF US, and they and their families know the dangers. (Actually, soldiers are put in harms way by politicians and commanding officers.)

We also learned over the weekend that some of the victims from the Oklahoma City bombing have started an organization asking for the same deal that the September 11 families are getting. In addition to that, some of the families of those bombed in the embassies are now asking for compensation as well.

You see where this is going, don’t you? Folks, this is part and parcel of over 50 years of entitlement politics in this country. It’s just really sad. Every time a pay raise comes up for the military, they usually receive next to nothing of a raise..

Now the green machine is in combat in the Middle East while their families have to survive on food stamps and live in low-rent housing. Make sense?

However, our own US Congress voted themselves a raise. Many of you don’t know that they only have to be in Congress one time to receive a pension that is more than $15,000 per month. And most are now equal to being millionaires plus. They do not receive Social Security on retirement because they didn’t have to pay into the system. If some of the military people stay in for 20 years and get out as an E-7, they may receive a pension of $1,000 per month, and the very people who placed them in harm’s way receives a pension of $15,000 per month.

I would like to see our elected officials pick up a weapon and join ranks before they start cutting out benefits and lowering pay for our sons and daughters who are now fighting.
