Roman Polanski

posted by:

When most people hear the name Roman Polanski, they think of the great movies he has directed and been honored for.  They don’t think of this man:

In 1977, Polanski was arrested charged with sodomy, sexual assault and rape of a 13-year-old girl at Jack Nicholson’s house in California, United States. Polanski agreed to plead guilty to unlawful sex with a child, often called statutory rape, in exchange for having the more serious charges dropped. However, in 1978, before his sentencing, Polanski fled the United States. He has since been a fugitive and faces arrest if he sets foot on US soil. France refuses to extradite him.

Polanski’s lawyers argued that there were irregularities and misconduct in the original handling of the case. While the Judge agreed, he rejected the notion that the charges should be dismissed on the grounds that Polanski cannot challenge the ruling while on the run as a fugitive.

There’s something wrong with this picture, don’t you think?  How can an industry honor a sexual predator like the movie industry has?  There is just something fundamentally wrong with that I think.  If I were an actor, I don’t care how much money he offered me to be in a movie he was making, I would have to refuse or tell him that I would only if he films it here in the United States.  I’m not so sure I care to ever see another of his films now that I am aware of this either.  Just a thought.

MySpace safer now?

posted by:

Well I have always been a bit leary of MySpace for this very reason.  They took 90,000 sex offenders off of their web site today.  I was absolutely amazed at the number just as I think that MySpace was too.  MySpace officials stated that they have removed 90,000 sex offender accounts from their website.

The social networking site admitted this is double what they anticipated last year. MySpace previously thought the site had 40,000 offender accounts registered.

Well the problem I have with this statement is they thought they had 40,000 offender accounts registered.  That almost sounds to me like they didn’t mind that many offenders to have accounts which I’m sure is not true at all.  It’s a shame that there are so many preditors out there these days but there are and that’s what worries a lot of parents of kids that have a MySpace page and I honestly don’t blame them at all.  Here’s one thing I did like reading about MySpace:

North Carolina attorney general Roy Cooper and Connecticut attorney general Richard Blumenthal stated that they encourage and seek more social networking sites like MySpace to become safer. After the MySpace team calculated the number of sex offenders on their website they submitted the numbers to both attorneys on Tuesday February 3.

“This shocking revelation, resulting from our subpoena, provides compelling proof that social networking sites remain rife with sexual predators,” said Blumenthal.

Both attorneys work with Facebook and MySpace in an agreement to make their social networking websites safer, especially for young users. They have already made both websites safer by implementing dozens of safeguards and a special features where users older than the age of 18 have limitations searching users less than 18 years of age.

At least MySpace and Facebook both are trying to make their web sites safer for younger people.  But even with that, it’s not fool proof and never will be unfortunately.  Nothing is totally safe and all younger people should be taught that from the time they’re old enough to understand, oh say about 4 or 5 years old.  Not that they will understand but they can understand that “You don’t talk to strangers because they might get you.”  Some may feel that might scare a child that young, well good because if they are afraid, then they might be a little safer.  I sure hope so.

I changed my phone number

posted by:

I don’t have a home phone because with a cell phone, I don’t need one.  My contract was about to end anyway with Sprint so I went to Verizon and got a whole new phone.  It’s a really cool Nokia that’s like a little computer with the Internet and everything, you know, a blue tooth I think is what it’s called. I’m not as up on stuff like that as I would like to be.

Anyway I got a new phone and a new phone number.  Now that jerk can’t call me anymore.  He knows the number to where I work but he won’t dare call there much at all.  He knows my lawyer will fry his rear end for harassment if he does.  I wonder how long it will take for him to call me at work?

That’s the best part about working in a lawyers office.  They really look out for me.  I don’t work for the lawyer that’s representing me.  He’s in the same offices but I work for two lawyers and Heather works for the other two technically.  I called Frank, my lawyer and told him what the jerk had done and he told me that if he asks for anything else, I should get a restraining order against him and he’ll think twice about asking for anything else.  I just might have to do that.

What a jerk

My crazy ex-husband just called me and asked me if he could have some things out of our house.  I told him he already got all he was getting and if he needs something, he needs to ask his new ‘boyfriend’ to get it for him.  Imagine the nerve of him.  I am so darn angry right now that I could spit blood and not mine either.

He wanted some furniture and stuff like that.  I have extra furniture in the extra bedrooms but I’m not giving it to him and his ‘sweetie pie‘.  He left me and if he had wanted anything, then he should have taken it with him right then.  He sure as heck isn’t getting a darn thing now unless a judge tells me I have to give it to him.  He made his choices and now he can sleep with them or live with them or whatever.

He’s nothing to me anymore but a bad memory, a stupid choice and a piss poor choice on my part.  That sure as heck won’t happen again because he can kiss what I’m sitting on a million times and he ain’t getting diddly squat from me ever again.

Talked with my boss

Well I spoke with my boss about the possibility of going to school to get a degree in paralegal and they’re all for it.  They did say they would pay for it and still keep me on in my current position.  I’ll also have all the help I could possibly need right here.  Not too bad of a deal, huh?

They even suggested a college that offers online courses that I can even work on here at work.  How about that?  I’ll get paid while taking a class or two as long as I’m still doing my work here, it won’t be a problem.  They’re handling my divorce for free and I guess they feel sorry for me.  Since my husband is the one that left, I get the house and since it’s paid for, they’re trying to get it free and clear for me since he made a lot more money than I did and ‘abandoned’ me.  They’re good lawyers and my husband feels like a jerk so I bet I’ll get it.  I’ll keep you posted.
