When my son told me that he was thinking about buying a couple of custom made suits to wear to work I was quite surprised. Here was a guy who refused to even wear a shirt with a collar up until a couple of years ago and now he’s thinking about spending hundreds of dollar of custom made suits!

Don’t get me wrong; I’m thrilled that he has finally decided to go to work dressed like a serious businessman. I’m just wondering what in the world changed his mind about how to dress for success! For years now he was perfectly happy to wear cargo pants and T-shirts, but now he spends hours picking out the best looking tie to wear with his gray pin stripe suit.

One of the things that I don’t like about my kitchen is that there is no room in it for the wall spice rack that I bought many years ago and love so much. The reason that I love that spice rack is that it is made out of wood, the jars had copper tops, and it has a traditional “country” look to it. Since I have a small collection of copper accented things around the house, and a few copper decorative furnishings in the kitchen, I really liked this one spice rack better than all of the under-counter and inside-cupboard spice racks that I’ve ever been able to find.

I do have a nice kitchen pantry closet that I keep my spices in, but there are several different spice rack set-ups in there. One of them is a double-decked lazy susan. Another one is a newer kind that I cannot remember what it is called but it is ingenious in the design – it has four shelves that flip and twist and slide around. To be honest, I’d like something like that on a larger scale because this particular one only holds small cans and bottles, and many of the cans, jars and bottles that spices are sold in just do not fit. That is the most aggravating part of storing spices, don’t you agree?

A couple of months ago I bought some Himalayan salt lamps for Christmas presents to give to some family members. They are supposed to absorb moisture and deodorize. In addition they are supposed to have some health benefits, relating to mood improvement. Knowing some family members would really enjoy having them, partly because they are pretty, and partly because of their holistic approach to better health, I went ahead and bought a couple of them to tuck away and give them as presents at a later time.

Much to my surprise, a couple of weeks later one of the intended recipients told me that she was thinking about buying one of those Himalayan salt lamps online. She showed me the picture of what she wanted, and it was exactly the same one that I had already bought for her! I told her that I had bought one for her for her Christmas present, and not to buy one herself. She asked me to give it to her now because she wanted to start “enjoying the benefits” immediately. Well, I agreed and I gave it to her. She was happy and took it home with her.

Less than a week later she told me that her daughter told her that she hated it, that it made her feel depressed instead of happy, and she gave the lamp back to me and asked me to give her something different for Christmas. I agreed to do that, and now I am using it in one of my bathrooms. I like how it deodorizes and helps to dehumidify the room. As for the original recipient, well, I ended up giving her a gift card to Wal-Mart. I know she buys things there, and I think that maybe I’ll just keep giving her gift cards in the future.

Today I went to a meeting where the person running the meeting brought in some Savannah bars from the Great Harvest Bread Company in old town. To be perfectly honest I had never been inside the Great Harvest bakery – I wanted to avoid the high prices and the empty calories. But since the food was being offered for free during the meeting, I decided to go ahead and help myself. First I had a piece of some kind of scone that had berries and cream cheese in it. I expected it to be very dry; after all every single scone I’ve ever eaten in my life was hard and dry and was, in my opinion, a waste of time.

But this was moist and delicious! The addition of the cream cheese was just the perfect touch! I thought I had never had anything so yummy in my life! But THEN I bit into the Savannah bar! I felt like I had died and gone to heaven! Towards the end of the meeting I saw that there were a few pieces left, so I went ahead and helped myself to another one.

After the meeting I found myself driving into old town and going into the Great Harvest Bakery. It smelled so good in there! All of the employees greeted me with great big smiles (Love it already!) and they offered me a slice of bread to sample. One of the bread choices had strawberries in it, and I said I’d like to sample that. It was still warm and oh my goodness yummy! If I wasn’t already going to buy some of the Savannah bars and scones I would have bought a loaf of that bread too! I will definitely have to go back there and buy some of that in the near future!

Mary was telling me that she was trying to find black titanium rings to buy for her wedding ring. She said that titanium was one of the metals that won’t irritate her sensitive skin and that it is guaranteed never to tarnish. She first found out about titanium jewelry when her fiance gave her a couple of titanium bracelets a couple of years ago. She said that she was concerned at first about wearing them because of her sensitive skin, but quickly discovered that she was able to wear the bracelets without any discoloration or discomfort at all.

Mary found a website that sells titanium jewelry, and thought that she had found the black rings she was hoping for, but when she was showing the website to me I pointed out to her that the black rings that we were looking at were made out of ceramic, or tungsten. They were pretty, but they were not titanium. I would expect that she would be able to wear a ceramic ring, but I don’t know how durable a ceramic ring would be. I’ve never had any ceramic jewelry before, have you?

Guest post written by Tammy Collins

There are a few things that I collect in this world. And the main thing that I love to collect is purses. It’s just that it’s so much fun when you can wear around your collection! I’m kind of known among my friends for my bag obsession but it’s gotten to a point where I really need to find a better way to store of them so they’ll still be in good quality.

I want to be able to see more of my collection too and was looking for some ideas when I saw information regarding bankruptcy alternatives. We’ve talked about our debt and different options like debt settlement, counseling, and other alternatives for a while and we’d love to avoid it, so we’re going to have to read some more into it.

I found a shelving system that I’m going to try and recreate so that I can keep all of them organized. If only I had a dust bag for each one of them! Maybe I’ll look into that and attaching a picture of the bag on the outside of each bag so I know which one is in which bag.

When I was in elementary school, the surface of the school playgrounds that I went to were either asphalt or hard packed dirt. If someone fell down, there were tears, ripped clothing, and often blood. Sometimes a broken tooth or bone would be the result of a hard landing. Even the public parks and playgrounds usually only had hard packed dirt, or sometimes a sandy surface. No body thought twice about making any of the landing surfaces a safer place for children.

By the time that my own children were in elementary school, however, there was a lot more safety awareness going on and people were starting to use a rubber mulch on the playgrounds to make the playgrounds a safer place for the kids. Companies like Rubberrecycle came into the picture and helped to promote the awareness of the need for extra safety precautions on the children’s playgrounds.

When I go to a playground now with my young niece, I am always amazed at how different the playgrounds are from when I was a child. When I was a child, the slides were made of metal and you would climb a ladder to the top of the slide and once you sat down you went straight down. The sides of the slide were only about two or three inches high – not really enough to keep someone from falling off of the side if they leaned too far to one side. Sometimes the metal surface was so hot that it would burn our legs when we sat down on the slide. Now the slides are made of brightly colored material that reminds me of PVC pipes. The slides are twisty and have sides that are so high that you can barely see the head of the child that is using it! The chances of falling off of that slide are much slimmer! I’m glad to see such advances in safety on the children’s playgrounds. I prefer the sounds of cheers to the sounds of tears!

Yesterday I was in town and decided to try out the new Cold Stone Creamery ice cream shoppe. Several people I know had told me that their ice cream is really good, and I had been given a coupon so I figured that was a good time to give it a try! I went inside and there was a very pleasant middle-aged man behind the counter, offering to help me. I explained that I had never been to any Cold Stone Creamery before and that I had no idea which flavors they even had. He immediately started giving me small sample spoonfuls of the different flavors that he had. The first flavor that he gave me was a flavor that he claimed was the best selling one – it was called cake batter. I agreed that it was very good, but I wanted a taste of the cheesecake flavor, which was even better. Then I saw that he had two different tubs of strawberry, and I asked him what the difference between the two were. He told me that one was ice cream, and one was frozen yogurt. He gave me a sample of each. The frozen yogurt was a lot more tart than the ice cream, so I like the ice cream better. I’m not a big fan of tart.

So I decided that I would ask for a small bowl with a scoop of cheesecake, and a scoop of strawberry ice cream. He took out a scoop of each and asked me if I wanted them mixed together. That thought had never occurred to me, thinking that the ice cream would be too hard in its frozen state to do that, but he managed to mix it nicely, and he added some fresh strawberries to the mixture as well. That concoction was extremely delicious, and I am certain to be on the look-out for coupons for the Cold Stone Creamery again!

My sister was talking to me about trying to stop drinking carbonated sodas but still wanting a nice cold drink with some flavor besides just water. I told her to try the Sobe green tea. It is not carbonated, the ingredients are all natural and it tastes great cold.

I buy them on sale at K-Mart for one dollar, but you can find them in convenience stores for $2.50 or at the local grocery store for around $1.50. Sometimes I find them at Wal-Mart for between $1.00 – $1.50, but I don’t go to Wal-Mart as much as I used to, and since I know that I like these, I will stock up when they are on sale. There are 10 of them on my pantry shelves and two in the refrigerator for when I get thirsty.

One of the most versatile pieces of womens underwear is a push-up shelf bra. Yet many women have yet to discover this universally flattering undergarment. A shelf bra is sometimes called a balcony bra. What makes this type of bra unique is the lower part of the bra gives plenty of support while leaving the upper decollatage visible. This feature makes the shelf bra perfect for low cut necklines and V-necks, boat necks, and square necklines. Typically this type of bra has widely spaced straps which usually allows for wide scoop neck shirts without the annoying embarassment of bra straps showing.

A large number of women tend to find one type of bra that fits them well and then they may fill their lingerie drawer with that one type of bra. That is understandable; finding a bra that fits well and is comfortable can be a challenge. Once a woman finds an undergarment that fits well and feels comfortable the woman tends to stick with it. If the undergarment makes the woman more attractive as well, then that is a valuable bonus! In some ways women shopping for a bra can be compared to the way many women shop for shoes; if they find a pair that fits and feels good they try to buy a pair in every possible color available.

Just as an improperly sized bra can make any woman look terrible, a properly sized push-up balconey bra can make women of any size feel sexier in their clothes. The bra is comfortable enough to wear the entire day, easily makes the transition from a business suit to a slinky evening romantic date dress.

In addition to a strapless bra, a sports bra, and a bra with convertible straps, a shelf bra or two have earned a valuable spot in the every woman’s lingerie drawer.
