Sometimes freeware is a trick

posted by:

There is nothing I like better than a great bargain! And what could be better than free? I LOVE free! Free is good! But when free brings with it a nasty virus that causes trouble, then free is a nasty trick. Today I was reading tips about trusted sources to download free software and learned that there are some trusted places that you can download free software, but that there are a lot of risks involved by going to other places.

I learned about this on a website whose main purpose is to rank and rate different web hosting services. Sometimes I’m amazed at how much information I learn by accident! Isn’t it funny how you start off reading a web page on a subject and then a link off to the side of the page catches your attention and before you know it you’ve gone off on so many tangents learning interesting things that after a while you forget what website you were on to start off with! Anyway, I just want to caution everyone about being careful with freeware – sometimes the download can be a virus.

I wonder how

I wonder if when and how someone will invent a domestic use climate control gadget that will equalize humidity and barometric pressure automatically. Have you noticed on cold and wet days that even when you have the heat turned on inside the house that the house still feels quite cool and damp? Many people that suffer from arthritis are bothered by the barometric pressure. Wouldn’t it be awesome if we could control the barometric pressure inside our house just as easily as setting the temperature on a thermostat?

I don’t need a boat anchor

One of the things that has bothered me for years is the issue of what to do with the old computer parts when I buy a new one. I must have four or five old monitors and CPUs taking up space in my basement. My friends joke that I am collecting boat anchors! I don’t even have a boat! I hate the thought of just taking them to landfill, but none of the local schools or charities want my old machines; anything more than two years old and they don’t want it.

The best solution, obviously, is to take them to a place that will recycle computers parts but I have had a very difficult time finding any place local that will do that. I have been told that some places will take in a “trade in” computer if you are buying a new one at their store, but what am I supposed to do with the older ones that I have been storing prior to the time that stores took the “trade-ins?”

Now that’s really different

One of the things that I really love about the Internet is how creative and different so many people can be when they create their web pages! For example, some people will focus on just one particular item, like how to make oversized candles with milk cartons and crushed ice, or dedicate themselves to raising money for a good cause. Still others will use the Internet to promote a political issue, or a particular candidate. And there are a lot of websites dedicated to religion and love, others are devoted to spreading hate. And some of my favorites are personal blogs, especially from my friends who love to travel; they post their adventures and pictures on their blogs. And let’s not forget the social media of facebook, and email!

Hackers and spammers get in there and try to create total havoc. I never could figure out why anyone would want to do that, I guess it’s just pure evil oozing out of their bodies, trying to ruin the capitalistic societies of the world. Where else could you push a button or two and switch from a screen that gives you a completely honest pacific hydrostar pressure washer review from fellow Internet users, and then a button push or two be able to find out where you can get some price comparisons for the same pacific hydrostar pressure washer, and then thirty seconds later buy a brand new wedding dress size 0 and pay for it all with PayPal? And then five seconds later get the up to date weather report for a country half-way around the world! What a great world this is!

Take your creativity with you

Have you ever wanted to make your own ring tone? To be perfectly honest, I never gave it much thought before. I’ve been perfectly happy with the ringtone that was the default ring tone of my cell phone. The tune is rather pleasant. But I have to admit it was really strange the other day when some one else’s cell phone was ringing and everyone grabbed for their cell phone because we all thought it was our own phone! Are we really THAT lazy, that we all just kept the default ring tone? Yes, I guess we are!

The last phone that I had I changed the ring tone to something different. It was one of the tones that came in the library of the phone, and it was pleasant and upbeat, and I did not know anyone else that had that ring tone. But to be honest, when it went off I never did realize that it was my telephone ringing and the phone always went unanswered! I’m thinking about making my own ring tone with my own voice saying something like “Hey Katelyn, answer your durn telephone! dag nab it!” That would definitely grab my attention and I’d know for sure that it wasn’t some one else’s phone ringing!

If you could create your own ring tone, what would you put on it?
