Sure do hope that Winter has finished with us by now. If the groundhog was right, we will have an early Spring. So now that it is March, I happy to note that the weather has gotten much warmer and there hasn’t even been much rain. I love the idea of an early Spring!

I need to get out more

With the weather changing and all of the rain we have had lately, I really need to get out more. I have been stuck in this house by my own wishes unfortunately, and now I need to get my rear end out into the world again. Now I just have to find out where to go and maybe with who or is it whom? I don’t know but I have to get out. I know I’ll feel a lot better too.

Yes we went through a pretty severe drought for a couple of years but that was absolute not a drop in the bucket to what’s going on in the northern part of China. Just take a look at this:

BEIJING – THE worst drought to hit parts of north China in six decades has left nearly five million people short of water, while officials warn of another dry spell further south, state media reported on Sunday.

A total of 4.6 million people and 4.1 million head of livestock face difficulty accessing drinking water in the north, the Xinhua news agency reported, citing the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters.

The figure is up from 3.9 million people affected a week ago, according to earlier state media reports.

The drought, which has hit an area stretching from Inner Mongolia region in the north to Jilin province in the northeast, has lasted since late July, the agency said.

In Liaoning province, next to Jilin, the situation is the worst in 60 years, with half of all arable land having dried up, Central China Television reported earlier on its website.

Meanwhile, the risk of another drought is emerging in the provinces of Hubei and Hunan in central China, which have been hit by a combination of low rainfall and high temperatures, Xinhua said. — AFP

Isn’t that absolutely awful? I feel so very sorry for those poor people and their animals. That’s why I try to conserve as much water as I can with rain barrels and any other way I can.

When Wilma and Betty of The Flintstones would go shopping, they would say “Charge it!” Do you remember that? I loved watching that show. Well when I go shopping, I say ‘Internet!!’ If I’m looking for hedge trimmers, I know where to start my search. It’s always the same place because not only do I find what I’m looking for, but I also get a lot of advice about it too. Then there’s always a need for home accessories. I love decorating my home. I find the neatest things on the Internet.

Lately I’ve been looking for housewares and home maintenance items. You know before you know it winter will be here and there’s always some type of home maintenance that needs to be tackled. But the one thing I love shopping online for is furniture. I’m taking one room at a time and looking for just the right table, chair, or accent table for that room. I do love online shopping. Sometimes it’s just ‘window shopping’ but that’s okay too.

There for awhile, it seemed like rain was all it would do. Then the rain stopped. Well that was great until everything got too darn dry, the gardens weren’t doing well at all and the yards were turning brown. Not to mention it was getting a bit hot and muggy.

Well thank goodness it’s finally raining again. In fact, I believe it’s supposed to rain most of tomorrow too. That doesn’t hurt my feelings one bit because that also means that the temperature will be lower. I personally do not like the high 80’s and all of the humidity of summer. Give me between 70 and 80 and I’m a happy girl.

Since my daddy is going to fix me a garden and it’s been raining so much, I had a brain storm!! I’m going to get some rain barrels. We all need to conserve water and what better way than with some rain water barrels? They make some really nice ones now that don’t just look like a barrel sitting by your house. They even make ones that would look great on the front of my house so I could use rain water to water my plants.

Rain harvesting is really easy too. You can put them at your downspouts or just sit them anywhere that nothing will keep the rain from going into the barrel. I’m going to put one near my garden that has a faucet at the bottom of it so I can water my garden when it needs it. That saves a lot, ya know? All I did was look up rain barrels for sale online and found just what I want.

Out of the past 5 or 6 weekends, it has rained either Saturday or Sunday or else the whole weekend. Last weekend was nice on Saturday and you better bet I got out and enjoyed it. I am so sick of all of this rain. Oh I know we really need every drop we can get because of that darn drought we were in for about 2 or 3 years but I almost to the point of building an ark!!

When I got up this morning, I expected to see limbs off of the trees or something like that but there was very little damage, thank God. On the way to work there were some smaller trees down that looked like they might be freshly planted at a housing development I have to go by and there was a lot of water here and there too. The creeks were really high and some yards were flooded a bit but the news didn’t say anything about any real damage so I guess it was just a thunder storm. We needed the rain but not all at once!
