Today would have been my great-grandmother birthday

posted by:

Too many times we forget the birthday of our loved ones that have passed away.  That’s not true for me.  My great-grandmother is one of those people that I prefer not to forget about.  She was an amazing woman.  She farmed 20 acres of land long after my great-grandfather died.  She grew enough food for three families and even sold a lot of what she grew.

I always make sure that on her birthday I place some chrysanthemums on her grave.  She loved those flowers and even grew them to sell to a local florist.  That woman could make money from the ground like no other I have ever known.  Like I said, she was a very special person and I have learned so much more about life and living from her than I could have ever learned in any classroom.

A word of caution

One of the things that scares me a lot is the proliferation of businesses like Little Payday that are cropping up on almost every second or third block downtown. Because of the struggling economy, more and more people are turning to short term loans to help them pay for things that they really need, like groceries and rent.

The problem with doing this type of loan is that if you are not able to pay it back within a few days of borrowing the money, you end up paying an enormous amount of interest, and by the time you are finished paying it off, you end up spending three or four or even five times the amount of money that you borrowed in the first place! Trust me, I am not a big fan of eating peanut butter and jelly every day, but if that is what it is going to take to make ends meet for a few weeks, it might be smarter to restrict yourselves to eating cheaper food for a while in order to prevent yourself from being trapped into a never-ending debt. Please folks, be really careful if you try to get a short term personal loan. Read the fine print carefully and make sure you understand all of the costs.

No instructions included

When I was shopping online a couple of months ago I was looking for specialty bras that I could wear to dance class. My favorite bras are sports bras because they have no hooks. The hooks dig into my body and hurt me like crazy. My favorite sports bras were only sold at Wal-Mart, and for some reason they don’t seem to carry them anymore. So I went online in search for that particular sports bra. I never did find it, apparently it has been discontinued. But what I did come across that I found interesting was a backless bra. I decided to order it because if it is backless, then there are no hooks to hurt my back.

Well, when the bra arrived, there were no illustrations or instructions about how to put it on and keep it from falling off! Apparently I am supposed to buy my own double-sided tape and tape it to my body to keep it on! I sure wish that had been explained in the description of the bra; I would not have wasted my money on it!

Commercial use quality

My sister used to work for a company that sold Resort Supplies & Catering Supplies when she first graduated from high school. I can remember how excited she was to work there because she was given an employee discount on everything that they sold there, and she was in the process of getting ready to move out of our parents home and into her own apartment. She was convinced that the commercial use quality of Hotel Supplies & Restaurant Supply products would last her a lot longer than the products that she could buy at a department store at the same prices. I can remember going to a Japanese steakhouse with her while she was working for that company and she told me that restaurant was one of their customers, and her pointing out the dinnerware, flatware and glassware, even the napkins were from her company.

She hasn’t worked for that company for a very long time now; I wonder whatever happened to it. I know a few years after she left there that they moved their offices to a different location. I think that someone told me that they went out of business because they couldn’t compete with the PeachSuite Hospitality Supply company. Anyway, the whole reason that I was even thinking about any of this is because I’ve noticed that we are running low on drinking glasses and I was thinking about how the local stores here don’t seem to sell anything even remotely durable. I’d like to get some that can take a little bit of rattling around without shattering, and restaurant quality would be a good thing to get.

Credit where credit is due

Since the economy is still a long ways away from the much desired recovery, many consumers are going to continue to struggle with keeping their bills paid on time. Credit scores will continue to fall, and this will make it more difficult for the consumer to buy their large ticket items on credit. This makes it even more important for the consumer to keep on top of his credit score and taking whatever steps are required to focus their efforts on  Credit Repair.

Occassionally I find myself reading a magazine article, or an online article about the importance of making sure that your credit score is not being falsely harmed by fraudulent or mistaken errors on your credit report. The first step on any Credit Repair process is to review your credit report. You are legally entitled to get a copy of your credit report once a year for free. Reviewing it for mistakes is the first step you should take. Even The Best Credit Repair Service money can buy will tell you that is the first step in the process. The last time I checked my credit report, I found a couple of mistakes on it, and I have been trying to clear them up. That can be a frustrating process, trust me!
