Every year I look forward to the return of the hummingbirds. I think they are magical little creatures. My mom used to marvel at the hummingbirds that came to her garden and feeders. Now I understand why. They are so cool to watch and in a flash – they are gone!
Cheesecake
Cheesecake has been one of my favorite desserts ever since my late teenaged years. When I was younger I did not realize that cheese came in different flavors and textures other than plain American cheese or swiss cheese. So whenever my parents would take the entire family to a restaurant and order cheesecake for dessert I would wrinkle my nose in disgust at the thought of eating a dessert that tasted like cheese!
I really can’t remember the first time that I was convinced to try a bite of
cheesecake. It might have been a “penalty” for losing a game of spoons on family game night. All I can remember about it is that when I was finally convinced to try a bite of it, it was covered with strawberry sauce and it was delicious. From that moment on it became my favorite dessert to order when eating at a restaurant.
Finger Kites
This time of year we always have windy days. My dad used to say that the rain comes in the spring to help get the plants and trees growing for the season. But if we have too much rain, it drowns the plants and kills the trees. So that is why we have wind – to help keep the ground dry enough to promote the growth of the grass, flowers, garden vegetables and the trees.
For me, I’m just glad that I found some cute finger kites on sale at K-Mart for one dollar. I keep 5 of them in the glove compartment of my car, and when I have the chance to stop and spend 20 minutes enjoying the outdoors, I can pull out some kites and have some fun with the wind.
Thank goodness for the Internet
One of the greatest things about the Internet, as far as I’m concerned, are the websites like YouTube and Hulu. These websites have so much entertainment stored on them that if for some crazy reason I can’t find something “good” to watch on television, I can always find something great online. I was watching the Today show a couple of mornings ago and they were talking about Brian Williams and Jimmy Fallon Slow Jamming the news. They showed a short clip of it, and it was a riot! I did a search online for the excerpt because I wanted to watch the entire gig. I tried YouTube, and they had several episodes of the two of them slow jamming the news (all a total riot, believe me!) but I guess the episode was still too new to have made it onto YouTube. I DID find it on Hulu, and was really glad to see that I could embed the code here on my blog so I can share it with my readers. I hope y’all enjoy it as much as I did!
Teacher of the Year
There is a sign in front of the local elementary school congratulating a woman for being selected “Teacher of the Year” for that school. It made me wonder how they go about selecting this person? I mean, if you don’t have a child in that teacher’s class, how do you actually know how good of a teacher she is? I would hope that all the teachers in this school are good teachers and they all deserve our thanks and recognition.
